Jeff Sheen: I can only speak from my own experience, living in the United Kingdom. How will Democracy 3: Africa challenge this perception? There’s obviously much more to it than that, though. IGN: There’s a perception in a lot of developed, first world countries that the African continent is a sun-scorched wasteland of starvation and post-colonial catastrophe, where you can go hunt lions. Democracy 3: Africa is the first time we have 're-imagined' the game, and the first time there has been an external designer and programmer, which is Jeff! It was a VERY experimental game at first, and the reason I did two sequels is because it really needed and deserved more polish. In each case the simulation has got more accurate and the GUI has got better and better. The original game was written long ago before I even did my stint working at Lionhead, it then got a much better sequel, and finally Democracy 3.

IGN Africa: Can you tell us a bit more about the team at Positech, and the Democracy series of games?Ĭliff Harris: Positech has for the most part just been myself.
Naturally, we had a lot of burning questions regarding the setting, and Cliff Harris and Jeff Sheen from Positech were kind enough to oblige. New artwork, scenarios, and music have also been developed to add to the theme. It also expands on the original Democracy 3 by including new factors such as foreign aid, malnutrition and lack of sanitation, and corruption. Giving you the option to choose between governing Nigeria, Egypt, South Africa, Kenya, Ghana, Zambia, Senegal, Tunisia, Botswana, or Mauritius, there is plenty of diversity on display. Now, Democracy 3: Africa hopes to bring the critically-acclaimed experience into the rather tumultuous continent of Africa. As in life, not everyone is going to be happy with your decisions, and you need to manage how many friends you still have when the elections come around again. You often need to improve one area of the country while diminishing another.
